I want to first thank Elliot Skinner for his contributions as DATM as he moves on.
Join me in welcoming Cody Cochran as the new DATM at vZOA! Cody has previously served as the DATM years ago, is a US Marine, real world pilot, and mentor at vZOA. Welcome and congrats Cody!
Please join me in welcoming Jackson, JG to the ZOA Staff team as our new Community Manager, you will start seeing the fruits of his labour soon!
We are expanding the staff here at ZOA and we would like to invite someone else to join the team and help us on this journey. If you think that is you, check out the information within. https://www.oakartcc.org/community/topic/community-manager-vzoa-position-open/
First, I’d like to give a big thank you to Michael Mund-Hoym for his time as DATM. His contributions were enormous and instrumental to getting ZOA on the right track. He’s been given a promotion in his Vatsim Membership position and must resign. Michael, we wish you the best, good luck, congratulations, and thank you for everything you’ve done here at ZOA! Michael will still be around as an Instructor, so be sure to congratulate him when you have a chance.
Now, join me in welcoming Jesse Romero as the new DATM here at ZOA. Jesse’s been with us for a while, and after a brief break with ZLA he has returned to help ZOA continue to get on the right track going forward. Jesse’s an experienced Instructor and controller having previously been with us on the training staff. I’m excited to see what the future holds, welcome back Jesse! Congrats!
After months of hard work I’m happy to announce that we’ve made some needed changes to the NorCal TRACON. In addition we have rebuilt the sector file to offer more features and more organization. The NCT SOP was rewritten from the ground up and formatted so that it is easier to read and find information within it. The Reno Complex SOP has been split, putting the Nugget and Silver information into the NCT SOP and the ATCT into it’s own SOP.
In depth details regarding the sector changes can be found on the forums. In a nut shell, not much has changed with the west flow sectors except for the addition of OAK_DEP. SFO_DEP has been renamed from Richmond to Sutro to reflect the real world name, and OAK_DEP is now called Richmond. The OAK_DEP sector was added in order to give OAK_APP or Area C controllers the ability to full control Oakland rather than confusing them when OAK_APP is online but not providing departure or local services to them. A few other minor changes have taken place that help with some of the operational conflicts that were introduced with the new RNAV arrivals.
The east flow sectors are where most of the changes have occurred. The previous sectorization was very bulky, had confusing operations, and wasn’t very efficient. We have redrawn almost all of the east flow sectors and believe that it will make east flow a little less intimidating and confusing. More details regarding sectorization can be found in the forums.
The sector file was rebuilt with organization and ease of use in mind. Everything has been organized in a way that makes sense and is easy to find. We really hope that you enjoy the sector file and if you have any suggestions we want to hear them! The sector file is available for download in the downloads section – it includes major sectors changes so everybody needs to update their sector file!
A couple of staff positions are in need of being filled. If you are interested in becoming an Events Coordinator or a Facilities Engineer, please visit the forum posts for more information.
Join me in congratulating Nick Navarro as the newest Mentor at Oakland ARTCC. Nick has been working hard and showing a lot of promise, we couldn’t be happier to welcome him to the training staff! Nick will be able to train students up to San Francisco Tower, so keep an eye out as he’ll be posting training availability soon! Congrats Nick!
We have hired a returning FE. Cody Cochran has agreed to come back as the replacement FE taking over for Dominic, who was promoted to DATM. Cody has previous experience with the airspace and the development of the sector files. Also in this time, Cody has hired Chris Mauro to assist him in the FE department. With two very experienced former FEs filling these positions, expect to have some great updates to the sector files and training scenarios. Please help me say “Thank you” to these two members for helping fill an important position.
That is all, carry on.
The Golden Mic Awards results have been posted. I have posted these results in our forums. Please take a look at this forum posting as it has some information that I would like all members to be aware of. These results are reflective of the activity of the ARTCC throughout the year.
Members of vZOA,
I would like you to congratulate Mr. Dominic Nguyen as the New DATM. As you know Dominic has been a member of the ARTCC for a long time. He leaves the Facilities Engineer position to fill a larger role in the ARTCC. Please help me in welcoming him into his new office. Welcome to the bigger office chair Dominic and we all look forward to making the ARTCC the best with your help as the DATM.
With Dominic accepting the DATM position that means the Facilities Engineer position is now open. I will be accepting applications. Click here for more information.
